Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne has hit back at Arsene Wenger who said after Arsenal drew 0-0 at Villa Park on Wednesday that Martin O'Neill's side were a long-ball team.
O'Neill said after the stalemate that he had been insulted by the Frenchman's words and former Manchester City defender Dunne is similarly unimpressed.
"I think everyone is a long-ball team compared to Arsenal," said Dunne. "They play so much good football it's difficult. We've got pace in our team up front and that's how you use it.
"They're not just long kicks. They're placed balls that we know our centre-forwards can get on the end of because they can outpace most defenders."
James Collins has also added his thoughts to the debate, saying: "They were ridiculous comments by Arsene Wenger. I don't think he has any right saying that about teams.
"It's the same on the pitch. You sort of get the impression playing against them that you can't tackle them. The comments he has made are so stupid, it's unbelievable. If we played long balls, we wouldn't be in the position we are in.
"Obviously the manager is angry with the comments as well and we can't believe what he has said."
