Delph ruled out for eight months

    20 Apr 2010 - 08:11:00

Teenage Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has been ruled out for eight months with a serious knee ligament injury.

The 18-year-old ruptured the cruciate ligament in his knee during training in the build-up to Sunday's 2-1 Premier League win at Portsmouth.

The England Under-21 international joined Villa from Leeds United last summer and had made 15 appearances during his first season in the top-flight.

"Fabian Delph suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in training on Saturday at Bodymoor Heath," read a club statement.

"This has been confirmed by clinical examinations and scans.

"Fabian will undergo ACL reconstruction at the appropriate time in the near future and it is expected that he will be sidelined for a period of up to eight months."
