Davies expecting Villa fight

Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies has admitted that he faces a massive task to force his way back into Martin O'Neill's starting eleven following a lengthy injury absence.

The 24-year-old centre-half has not featured since late August due to a shoulder problem which required surgery, having been forced to watch on as new signings James Collins and Richard Dunne have settled in quickly in the Villa backline.

Davies told the club's official website: "I'm envious in the fact I want to be out there playing, not because it's anyone new or anything like that. I just want to be playing.

"If I'm not playing, then I'm basically envious of everybody out there.

"But I'm happy the new lads are doing well because it means the club is doing well. If I was a selfish person I'd be thinking 'let another one in' and then we'd be losing games.

"The main thing for me is the team are doing as well as possible in the Premier League and going as far in the Carling Cup and the FA Cup as they can.

"Hopefully when I'm fit I could be in there with a shout, although it's going to be a tough ask."
