Cuellar sets sights on debut

Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar has declared himself fit and available for first-team duty after an injury-plagued start to his time with the Midlands club.

The Spanish defender has yet to make a competitive appearance for Martin O'Neill's side following his £7.8million arrival from Rangers during the summer.

But after making two reserve team appearances during the international break, the 26-year-old centre-half believes his calf muscle problems are now firmly behind him.

"I am very happy because I am able to play now after recovering from the injury. I feel better and everything is looking good," he told AVTV Online.

"It's been fantastic to get two wins in my two reserve games. And I'm obviously delighted that I'm fit and that I did well.

"I didn't feel any problems. I am getting closer to being available to the manager.

"Every day in training, I feel better and everything is moving in the right direction.

"Villa Park is a really great ground and the atmosphere, even in the reserve game was fantastic.

"I am looking forward to walking out for a first-team match to see what it is like when it's full."
