Aston Villa central defender Gary Cahill has joined Sheffield United on a three-month loan deal.
The 21-year-old England Under-21 international impressed last season for Villa, but has found first-team opportunities limited this term, following the summer arrivals of Zat Knight and Curtis Davies.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill told the club's official website: "There has been a lot of interest in Gary, but I had to balance his need for football with the needs of the club.
"But I am always keen for players to get action wherever possible."
Meanwhile, O'Neill has urged his players to react quickly to a poor performance in the 1-0 defeat at Manchester City last weekend.
He told the Birmingham Mail: "A lot of people are saying very encouraging things about us and we have to live up to that billing.
"Even though we look an exciting side, at the end of the day we must convert more half chances into something. That's what separates the big boys from the rest.
"For the most part I have been very encouraged by us. I want us to keep the tag of being an exciting side and I don't want things to peter out."
