Barry urges Villa confidence
06 Mar 2009 - 15:10:30
Gareth Barry insists Aston Villa are still focused on finishing in the top four despite their recent downturn in results.
The England midfielder is confident the Midlands club can still hold off interest from Arsenal to claim the final Champions League qualifying spot.
Fourth-placed Villa have taken only one point from their last three Premier League games and now lead the Gunners by just three points, but Barry claims there is no need to panic.
"We are fourth at the moment. There is still a little gap there and there is still a chance," he said.
"We've just got to try and see it through in the final part of the season.
"But we would prefer to be looking up, chasing Liverpool and Chelsea.
"That is the aim, rather than thinking about Arsenal. You've always got to think like that, no matter who you are. We are still in there.
"Some of the results (of other teams) keep giving us chances. The players, the manager, the fans, everyone at the club realises you've got to try and take it while it is there this season.
"We are right in there still."
