A below-par Chelsea edged into a five-point lead at the top of the table after being held by dogged Aston Villa.The hosts started brightly as Stephen Ireland screwed an effort wide and Petr Cech tipped John Carew's shot around the post within the first five minutes. The Blues improved after the break and Branislav Ivanovic and Nicolas Anelka both headed against the woodwork.
