50 Rising Stars to watch in the Premier League: No 7 Marc Albrighton
The countdown continues with a look at an Aston Villa winger making a big impression in the Premier League.
Name: Marc Kevin Albrighton
Born: 18 November 1989 (Age 20)
International Honours: England U20s (2 caps) U21s (2 caps, 1 goal)
After an unsuccessful trial with Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion, Albrighton was signed to the Aston Villa academy at the age of eight.
A pacey winger with tricks aplenty, Marc moved through Villa's youth ranks before graduating to the first-team action for the first time in 2008.
His competitive debut was delayed until the first game of the 2009-10 season, where he came on as a substitute in a 2-0 home defeat to Wigan Athletic.
Albrighton only made a few appearances from the bench during the campaign but did extend his contract at the club after manager Martin O'Neill indicated that that he would have a major part to play in the future.
After O'Neill's surprise departure just prior to the start of this season, the 5ft 9in wide-man was finally rewarded with his first Premier League start by caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald.
Since then he has established himself as a key player for Villa, plying his trade on the right side of midfield. He scored his first Premier League goal in a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham last weekend.
His impressive performances recently led to a call-up from England under-21 boss Stuart Pearce. Albrighton has since earned two caps, scoring once in his last outing against Lithuania.
