Young accepts his fate

uke Young has revealed that he knew on Saturday that he would be unable to answer his England call.[LNB] The full-back helped Aston Villa to a 2-0 victory over Blackburn at the weekend, a result which helped them climb to third in the Premier League table.[LNB]The joy of having taken three points at Ewood Park would be short-lived though as he sustained a toe injury during the game.[LNB]He was named in Fabio Capello's 23-man squad for Wednesday's friendly against European champions Spain, but knew he was unlikely to meet the required fitness levels.[LNB]He reported to training in order to undergo a check by the England medical team, but has since returned to Villa in an effort to rid himself of the niggling problem.[LNB]"I came off the pitch at Ewood Park and we had won and I was on a real high," Young told AVTV.[LNB]"I then found out I was in the England squad. That was fantastic but, deep down, I knew it would be difficult to link up and take part in the game.[LNB]"I was very disappointed but at the same time it is great to think I am in Fabio Capello's thoughts.[LNB]Thinking ahead"Our medical team let the national medical team know about my situation and I had to go down and report and get checked out.[LNB]"We just feel the best thing is to make sure I get my toe right. I have a very important month coming up with Villa."[LNB]Young was one of six Villa stars to be handed an England call-up - alongside Ashley Young, Gareth Barry, Emile Heskey, Gabriel Agbonlahor and James Milner - and the 29-year-old believes that is a clear indication that the club are heading in the right direction.[LNB]"A lot of credit has to go to the other lads," he continued.[LNB]"The England manager has come to a lot of the games to see the likes of Gabby, Emile, Gareth, Ashley and Milly so obviously a couple of my performances have caught the eye as well, which is fantastic.[LNB]"It's very pleasing that I am in and around it and in the thoughts for future squads.[LNB]"Villa are on such a good run and the lads want to keep that going. We are really focused on club level but obviously the results and the performances of the players are catching the eye of the national manager."[LNB]
