Aston Villa new-boy Ashley Westwood is ready to challenge at the heart of Paul Lambert's side in a bid to take the team to the next level. The 22-year-old joined Villa from Crewe in the closing hours of last Friday's transfer deadline and hopes to make an immediate impact in the Premier League.

"I want to settle in quickly and hit the ground running," Westwood told the club's official website. "I am looking forward to the challenge, that's what being a footballer is all about, progressing and setting yourself different targets. I'm on that track now. "As soon as I got here, I went into the manager's office to speak to him and he said he was looking at younger lads to step up and take us to the next level. I very much want to be part of that.

"I have been waiting a long time for this. I feel I did my time at Crewe and now was the right time to move on and give myself a new challenge."
