striker Emile Heskey has backed the club to break into the top four this season.
The £3.5m signing from Wigan
made an immediate impact on debut with the only goal of the game in Tuesday's 1-0 win at Portsmouth and is confident Villa can gatecrash the Champions League places which have been monopolised by Manchester United
for so long.
Speaking to BBC radio WM, Heskey said: 'It's going to be a difficult proposition but breaking into the top four is what every team wants to do - and hopefully we can do that.
'We're not far off, we've got some very good players here. We have got some good young players as well. They are going to really step into the limelight and with the results you are going to grow in stature as well.'
Villa are currently third in the table, six points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal.
