Villa make Collins bid

Sky Sports sources understand Aston Villa have made a bid for West Ham defender James Collins. Collins' future at Upton Park has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks with the Welsh international holding talks with Stoke earlier this month. West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola revealed over the weekend Villa were interested in signing Collins and they have now firmed up their interest with an offer for the central defender. Villa chief Martin O'Neill has been searching for defensive reinforcements all summer after losing Martin Laursen and Zat Knight and he is hoping to bring in Collins to help bolster his ranks. The Hammers are resigned to losing Collins as the club look to trim their squad and the former Cardiff man seems set to depart Upton Park before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday.
