Villa firm over Davies deal
Curtis Davies' agent has admitted his disappointment that Aston Villa are refusing to hold contract talks.
Davies signed for Villa in 2008 in £10million deal from West Bromwich Albion after he spent an initial year on loan from the Baggies.
Under his current agreement, Villa would be obliged to offer fresh terms once the defender has played 60 games.
At the moment Davies has played 58 times for Martin O'Neill's men, but he is currently sidelined until Christmas following shoulder surgery.
And the player's representative is not too happy that Villa are insisting he plays his full quota of games before talks will commence.
"It is slightly disappointing given the circumstances of Curtis' injury and the fact he played on when the club were low on numbers," his agent Phil Sproson told the Daily Mirror.
"We hoped it could be sorted sooner rather than having to wait for Curtis to play his allocation of games.
"But it's the club's prerogative and we respect Martin's decision.
"We'll have to look at the situation in January when Curtis is available and plays two more games."
No regrets
Davies himself admits he has no regrets about having his surgery, even if it has severely dented his hopes of making England's World Cup squad.
"I don't regret not having it done in the summer, because it wasn't needed," said Davies.
"How can you justify an operation when I've just got through four months of football without it happening?
"If you have the operation you technically weaken it at first, don't you?
"I got through it then and I got through since it happened at West Brom for a few years.
"So I thought, well, it's happened, it's a freak thing and it won't happen again.
"Physically, before I had the operation done, I could have played against Fulham, and I could have played against Blues.
"But it was a case of it might go, it might not go. It could have lasted a game and gone, it could have gone ten games, so it was unpredictable and it was erratic.
"It had to be done and with the additions of Richard Dunne and James Collins it softened the blow of getting it done now."
