Spurs manager Harry Redknapp needs to sign reinforcements up front, with Darren Bent likely to join Sunderland for £12m. Carew, 29, fits the mould Redknapp is looking for - strong and experienced - but Villa manager Martin O'Neill is loath to lose the Norwegian international without finding a suitable replacement himself. Villa have been linked with an £11m move for Portsmouth and England forward Peter Crouch, but face stiff compettion from Sunderland and Fulham. O'Neill's priority this summer is defence and midfield following Martin Laursen's retirement and Gareth Barry's £12m swtich to Manchester City. Reports suggest Villa will make a £6m bid for midfielder Fabian Delph and Leeds have confirmed that two approaches have already been rebuffed for the England U21 international. Delph, 19, has also attracted the interest of Everton and Leeds manager Simon Grayson said: "There have been lots of enquiries but we want to keep hold of Fabian. Then again, every player has a price. Manchester United got a good price for Cristiano Ronaldo. "No-one expected Fabian to leave six months ago, but in football that happens. He's a talented player and you can't get away from the fact there are going to be some Premier League clubs enquiring about him. 'But he's under contract and any decision on players leaving the football club has to be the right decision for us and the player as well."
