Tottenham outcast Bentley lined up to replace departed Barry at Aston Villa

Martin O'Neill is lining up David Bentley to replace Gareth Barry in the Aston Villa midfield. The Northern Irish boss doesn't want to be rushed into spending the £12million received from Manchester City for England midfielder Barry. But, with Bentley set to leave Tottenham Hotspur just a year after signing from Blackburn Rovers, O'Neill is considering renewing interest in a player he tried to sign last summer. Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins and Bentley's Spurs team-mate Tom Huddlestone have also been linked with summer moves to Villa Park. Bentley, 24, was signed for £15m under Juande Ramos's White Hart Lane regime, but current boss Harry Redknapp is ready to ditch the former Arsenal trainee. Nigeria striker Martins' agent has claimed Villa, Arsenal and Everton all want to sign him, with a fire sale likely at St James' Park.
