Three new faces for Scotland
David Goodwillie, Danny Wilson and Barry Bannan have all been named in the Scotland squad for the friendly against the Faroe Islands.[LNB] Dundee United striker Goodwillie, Liverpool defender Wilson and Aston Villa midfielder Bannan have all won first call-ups to the full squad.[LNB]Goodwillie has scored eight goals in 11 games for United.[LNB]Wilson, Goodwillie and Bannan are the only newcomers but manager Craig Levein has left out a number of regulars including Kenny Miller, Kris Boyd, Allan McGregor and Shaun Maloney.[LNB]Cardiff winger Chris Burke, Derby wide man Kris Commons and Hearts striker Kevin Kyle have all won recalls for the Pittodrie clash on Tuesday.[LNB]Recent additions to the squad such as Jamie Mackie, Cammy Bell and Matt Gilks keep their places.[LNB]Steven Whittaker and Steven Naismith are the only two Rangers players in the squad with Levein admitting he took the Ibrox club's European schedule into account.[LNB]Rangers face Manchester United at Ibrox in the Champions League eight days after the international.[LNB]Levein said: "It's quite unusual to have so many players from one club. There were seven or eight in one squad recently.[LNB]"I'm conscious those guys have played some big matches, and a lot of matches, recently.[LNB]"I have decided to give them a bit of a break but it kind of fits in with my policy for this match anyway.[LNB]"I have brought some younger ones in who have been doing well and I want to see how they fit in."[LNB]Levein has handed Goodwillie an early chance to show he can lead the nation's attack in years to come by selecting the controversial striker.[LNB]Goodwillie was dropped by Dundee United boss, and Scotland assistant, Peter Houston for the weekend trip to Hamilton after being arrested days earlier following an alleged disturbance in Glasgow city centre.[LNB]But the 21-year-old came off the bench to score the only goal and continue his recent impressive record.[LNB]Levein made several attempts to force Goodwillie to concentrate on football and behave off the field while United manager, and he admitted he might have left the forward out of his squad had he faced court last week rather than being released without charge.[LNB]But Levein could not leave out a striker who has scored eight goals in 11 games.[LNB]"I picked David on the fact I'm looking for a goalscorer," Levein said.[LNB]"His recent record is fantastic. I've no doubt David has a bit of growing-up to do, both off the field and on the field, but I do think he can add something to this group.[LNB]"Everybody who is in this group has an opportunity to impress. We do rely quite heavily on the likes of Kenny Miller for goals and it would be good to find a younger one who could take us forward.[LNB]"David's goalscoring stats are pretty impressive for someone so young."[LNB]Levein had already given a strong hint he would select Villa winger Bannan and he explained why he had chosen 18-year-old Wilson despite the fact he has played only first-team game for Liverpool since his multi-million pound summer move from Rangers.[LNB]"I see Danny Wilson as somebody who will be a Scottish international on a regular basis in the years ahead," Levein said.[LNB]"I want to get a chance to work with him for two or three days. I'm aware of the fact he's not playing. A lot of these guys are playing regularly and playing very well.[LNB]"But I want to get a look at him in training and just get to know him a little bit."[LNB]Wilson, Goodwillie and Bannan are the only newcomers but manager Craig Levein has left out a number of regulars from his 20-man pool.[LNB]Levein added: "Anybody on this list is someone I can feel can add something to the team. For some of them it might not be that imminent, but I want to have a look at them.[LNB]"I have brought some younger ones in who have been doing well and I want to see how they do, not just in the game but in training as well.[LNB]"We want to win the game first and foremost. If you look through the squad you will see a lot of guys who have figured in the last few competitive matches. There is a strong core and I've added some guys who have hit a bit of form and also some young ones."[LNB]The Scotland boss continued: "Chris Burke is playing very well for Cardiff. They are up at the top end of the table, in no small measure through his performances.[LNB]"Kris Commons is on fire, he is scoring a lot of goals. He is one who I tried to bring into the squad earlier but he had an injury."[LNB]Levein has left out current Celtic skipper Maloney in order to take a closer look at the likes of Commons and Bannan, leaving Whittaker and Naismith as the only Old Firm representatives.[LNB]Levein said: "It's quite unusual to have so many players from one club. There were seven or eight in one squad recently.[LNB]"I'm conscious those guys have played some big matches, and a lot of matches, recently.[LNB]"I have decided to give them a bit of a break but it kind of fits in with my policy for this match anyway."[LNB]Meanwhile, Levein has not totally given up on his quest to persuade Andy Carroll to play for Scotland.[LNB]But he expects the in-form Newcastle striker, who has a Scottish grandmother, to be selected for the England squad for next week's friendly against France.[LNB]When asked if he would continue his pursuit, Levein replied: "If he's not involved in this England squad, then yes. I spoke to his agent last week.
