Sven Goran Eriksson and Bob Bradley eyeing up Aston Villa post

10 August 2010 11:33
Bob Bradley and Sven Goran Eriksson have expressed a keen interest in taking charge of Aston Villa. [LNB]The pair emerged as early frontrunners to replace Martin O'Neill who dramatically quit on Monday after four years in charge. [LNB]Alan Curbishley, Martin Jol and Jurgen Klinsmann have all been linked with the position but United States coach Bradley and former Ivory Coast boss Eriksson appear to be leading the way.[LNB] [LNB] Count me in, and me:  Eriksson (left) and Bradley head the betting for the Villa job[LNB]A source close to 62-year-old ex-England and Manchester City coach Eriksson said: 'Of course, Sven would be interested in this job. He has always said that he would like to go back into the Premier League. It is a big target for him.' [LNB]Eriksson's representative, Athole Still, insisted there has not been any approach from Villa for the Swede, who was in charge of the Ivory Coast during the recent World Cup.[LNB] [LNB]        HAVE YOUR SAY...     Are Aston Villa better off without Martin O'Neill? Martin O'Neill has stunned Aston Villa by resigning in the week before the new Barclays Premier League season. But the Northern Irishman had indicated in April that his time at Villa Park might be coming to an end, so is a parting of the ways best for everyone in the West Midlands? TELL US WHAT YOU THINK Still said: 'There has been no contact from Aston Villa. Sven gets associated with a lot of big jobs but, as we speak, there has been no contact from Aston Villa.' [LNB]Bradley is preparing for his side's friendly with Brazil this week but he could be tempted to join fellow American, Villa owner Randy Lerner. [LNB]The 52-year-old, who was strongly linked with the Fulham job before Mark Hughes was appointed, said: 'I have said over and over that I am always excited about new and different challenges. [LNB]'Certainly coaching in Europe at some point is something that I would love to do. [LNB]'At the same time, I also consider it a challenge when you finish one [World Cup] cycle and begin the process of working on another one. From the time one World Cup ends, you begin to go through the process of assessing where you are.' [LNB]Meanwhile, Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner is set to hold a meeting with the club's players later today (Tuesday). [LNB]Faulkner will explain to the squad the events of the last 24 hours and Villa's plans for the immediate future until a replacement for O'Neill is found. Reserve team coach Kevin MacDonald will be in charge for Saturday's Barclays Premier League opener with West Ham at Villa Park.  [LNB] Why Martin O'Neill jumped: At 58, he couldn't afford to watch all his best players being soldSign up to our FREE Fantasy Football game - with £40,000 in prize money up for grabsBuy buy, Martin: How O'Neill spent £120million in four years at Aston VillaAston Villa in crisis as Martin O'Neill quits while England star Young could be next to leavePremier League preview: Aston Villa's fight against their wealthier opponents won't end wellASTON VILLA FC
