Chelsea have confirmed the signing of England Under 20 striker Daniel Sturridge on a four-year deal after his contract expired at Manchester City. Sportsmail revealed last month that the Blues had won the battle to sign the 19-year-old, but the two clubs have now confirmed the move after a tribunal agreed a fee, which has not been disclosed. Sturridge was out of contract but not available on a Bosman free because he is under 24. City were thought to be seeking a 'development fee' of £10million while Chelsea are understood to have offered £3m. Sturridge stunned City by demanding £55,000 a week to sign a new contract at Eastlands, leaving Chelsea and Aston Villa to fight for his signature. He made 16 Premier League appearances last season and scored four goals but Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen has been after him for three years. City are thought to have made a claim for a down-payment in excess of £5m, proposing that the remainder of the money came in performance-related instalments.
