Shorey stays focused on football
The England international started Villa's opening game of the season against Wigan on Saturday, but he has struggled to hold down a regular role following his arrival from Reading last summer.
He spent the latter half of last season behind Luke Young in the Villa Park pecking order, with Martin O'Neill preferring to play his first-choice right-back out of position on the left rather than hand Shorey a starting berth.
With Wilfred Bouma also set to return shortly from a long-term ankle injury, Villa will be well-stocked at left-back.
That has led to speculation suggesting Shorey could be offloaded in an effort to generate funds.
The 28-year-old acknowledges that his future remains unclear, but insists his sole focus at present is on Villa's Europa League showdown with Rapid Vienna on Thursday.
"All I'm concentrating on is just being as fit as I can be and then what will come of that will come of it," Shorey said in the Birmingham Mail.
"Hopefully Freddie (Bouma) will be back. It will be nice if he gets back soon, he's been out for a while, so it will be good for Aston Villa to have him back.
"Who knows in football? No-one knows what's round the corner, but I'm here and I'm working hard to try and get into the first team.
"Every player gets speculation about them at some time -
sometimes it's rubbish and sometimes there's something in it, but you just have to get on with it.
"The manager's got a decision to make when he picks the team and I've just got to make sure that I'm out there putting in good performances to make sure that I'm in the team.
"I never will have doubts about my ability. When I'm out there I just enjoy playing my football the way I play it. When someone asks you to improve certain things you try to do it and that's what I've been trying to do."
