Sherwood is right to view Villa job as a 'no brainer'

England's Second City Derby is a clash of two of the most passionate fan groups of the English game. However, English football only has room for one of the two in the upper echelons of its history. Aston Villa has won 21 major trophies throughout its presence in the football league and has thus established itself as one of England’s great footballing powers. Seven first division titles, seven FA cups, five League cups, one European Cup and one European Super Cup means that they are amongst the top five of England’s most successful club sides. So, it is no wonder why the newly appointed Tim Sherwood has expressed his decision to succeed Paul Lambert as a no brainer.

"It's a fantastic opportunity and a huge football club. When I got the call asking if I would be interested, it was a no-brainer. Yes. I'll take the job and then we'll negotiate later, see if they like what I'm about."

This attitude, in terms of his response to Aston Villa’s offer, exudes Time Sherwood’s character to a tee. He is a man who is guaranteed to bring the Villains a sense of urgency. Additionally, he will not accept the slack work ethic and intolerance towards the direction of the coaching staff that his footballers’ have been exuding thus far this season. I suspected that he was rather unfortunate to lose his job at Spurs after being recognized as the winningest coach in their history, in terms of win percentage, albeit during a spell that lasted less than a season. Now, after learning how he will approach the players as the new manager at Villa Park, I have no doubts that he is in fact the right man to keep them in the Premier League, and then motivate them to where they should be, in the upper half of the table, beyond this beginning spell in charge.

Sherwood explained to talkSport, "Everyone in football is surprised but they're here for a reason," he said. "I need to get everyone on the training pitch and then take them at face value. I see it as a giant football club, one that is a great honor.
