The versatile Austrian has two years left on his contract at the JJB Stadium, but is keen to be playing in European competition. He recently admitted that qualification for the Europa League could persuade him to stay with Latics, but the club's push for seventh spot fell apart on the back of six defeats in seven games. The dip in form could hasten Scharner's exit, with Aston Villa, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur all linked with £6million bids. German duo Hamburg and Schalke have also been linked with the 29-year-old, who outlined his wish to move on. "I feel this summer is the time for me to make the next step in my career," Scharner told Austrian TV. "I'm looking towards getting a regular starting place in the Austria national side. "My absolute aim would be to play in the Champions League."
