Remi Garde puts a halt to Aston Villa's pursuit of Steve Round

Aston Villa boss Remi Garde has put the brakes on any move for Steve Round.

Former Manchester United assistant Round held talks with Villa in the summer while Tim Sherwood was still in charge.

Garde confirmed he spoke to Round after he was appointed this month but has brought in Reginald Ray as his assistant.

Garde is understood to be keen on appointing a coach with experience of the Barclays Premier League but it is now unlikely to be Round.

Any fresh appointment would also work under Ray and Press Association Sport understands Round is considered too experienced for the role after his time at Old Trafford and Everton.

"I am happy at the moment with my staff," said Garde.

"I have brought with me Reginald Ray and Robert Duverne. I know Steve Round has been linked with the club but probably before I came here.

" The club had a chat before I was linked then they told me they'd had this chat. I said it was no problem and I wanted to be polite.

"I didn't know Steve personally but I know his career so it was nice to have a chat with him but that was it."

Garde could yet go back in for his coaches at Lyon, Gerald Baticle and Bruno Genesio, after Villa saw their attempt to take them from the Ligue 1 club thwarted.

Villa go to Everton on Saturday bottom and five points from the safety line after a 0-0 draw against Manchester City stopped a run of seven straight defeats in Garde's first game in charge.
