Remi Garde insists relegation-threatened Aston Villa can still attract players

Defiant Remi Garde believes Aston Villa can still convince players to join despite their desperate season.

The rock-bottom side are 10 points from safety in the Barclays Premier League and are staring at relegation ahead of Boxing Day's visit of West Ham.

Garde wants to bring in new faces in January while Charles N'Zogbia, Gabby Agbonlahor and Libor Kozak could all be allowed to leave.

He is keen on Leicester's Gokhan Inler and Bordeaux winger Wahbi Khazri and will look at players who need games ahead of Euro 2016.

Garde said: "Even at the bottom of the table Aston Villa is still attractive for some players. They know we are not relegated yet and hopefully before the opening of the transfer window our situation will be a little bit better. Many players are interested in coming to England and joining Villa.

"It depends on the mentality of the player. As you can imagine some loans would be very helpful for the club but also for the player.

"For example if some players want to play in the Euros at the end of the season but are maybe not getting enough games at their clubs, maybe it's a good deal for both."

No team in Premier League history have survived while on seven points at this stage of the season and Garde, who replaced Tim Sherwood in November, admitted his transfer plan includes thinking about the Championship.

He said: "Yes, you're right. We have to be prepared for each situation. The club is prepared. It's not to say we're only looking at the months ahead, we have to look further than that. There are some players who could be interested in both situations."
