QPR boss Harry Redknapp plays down links to Joe Cole and Darren Bent

Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has played down talk linking him with Joe Cole and Darren Bent.

Redknapp has been linked with both players when the transfer window reopens in January as he looks to bolster his squad at Loftus Road. Cole and Bent have both previously played under Redknapp and their futures at Liverpool and Aston Villa have been the subject of conjecture. Redknapp is an admirer of the duo, but he has hinted QPR will not spend big in the transfer window if they do not appear to have a realistic chance of staying in the Premier League come January.

"Darren Bent's a good player. They paid 20-odd million for him but I'm not even looking at January," said Redknapp.

"I've always liked Joe. I signed him for West Ham at 11 years old so no-one knows more about him than me.

"I still think he's got talent and there's a top player there, but I've made no enquiry about Joe. I've had no contact with his agent or anyone." Redknapp added:

"What happens between now and January will decide where we go.

"If we don't get points in that period then why put the club in danger by signing five players and having a big wage bill next season?

"I haven't discussed players with anyone - not the chairman or chief executive Philip Beard. We just need to win football matches."
