Stiliyan Petrov is delighted to have finally won over the Villa Park boo-boys after a turbulent three seasons at the club.[LNB] The Aston Villa midfielder struggled in his first two years in the Midlands after signing for a hefty £6.5million from Celtic in August 2006.[LNB]The 29-year-old was booed by supporters and even lost his place in the starting XI last term but this season has seen the Bulgarian turn around his fortunes in dramatic fashion.[LNB]Petrov was named the supporters' player of the year and players' player of the year at Villa Park and is close to finalising a new contract to make it a campaign to remember.[LNB]"I am pleased I have finally shown what I can do," he said.[LNB]"It took me a really long time to settle in so I'm happy I've won the two awards. It's a big thing especially for me after the way my career started at Villa.[LNB]Fan backing"I'm glad the fans gave me the opportunity to win this award and to have their backing.[LNB]"Maybe it puts more pressure on me because next season I have to go out there and show everybody I deserve these two awards."[LNB]Despite seeing their challenge fall away after Christmas, Petrov is confident the club can mount another challenge for a UEFA Champions League place next season.[LNB]"We were talking about breaking into the top four but to finish not far from them has given us great courage to go on next season and do it again," he added.
