Petrov: We must improve
Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov has insisted the team must improve next season to show that the disappointments of this campaign are a "one-off".
Villa's season got off to an uneasy start when Martin O'Neill handed in his resignation only five days before the season got under way.
Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier replaced the charismatic Irishman but the team could not replicate their recent league performances and Petrov told the club's official website that the buck stops with the players.
"We haven't performed this season and we know that it is up to us, nobody else," he said.
"The last three seasons before this one we have finished sixth. This season we did not show what we are capable of and next season will be a big one for us - we have to show this has just been a one-off."
