Petrov laments Villa naivety

Skipper Stiliyan Petrov has blamed Aston Villa's horror show at Newcastle on their own naivety. The midlanders turned in a desperately poor display on Tyneside as local hero Andy Carroll inspired the home side to a 6-0 victory with a hat-trick. To make matters worse, striker John Carew missed a penalty with the score at 0-0 to let the promoted Magpies off the hook and pave the way for their goal rush. The humiliating defeat came as a major shock after a 3-0 opening-day victory over West Ham and a midweek draw with Rapid Vienna, who head for Villa Park on Thursday evening. Petrov told AVTV: "We will be a changed side in the next game. We have the quality, but we were probably a little bit naive. We thought we were going to come over here and get an easy game after our performance last week [against West Ham]. "But last week was last week and we need to be prepared for every single game. We are really disappointed because our defensive record has been great."
