Petrov hints at Villa stay

Stiliyan Petrov will make a decision regarding his Aston Villa future when he feels the time is right. Rumours regarding the Bulgaria international's intentions have been mounting for some time. Villa have made it clear that they would like him to stay, but the player has yet to commit himself to the club. He does still have over a year left to run on his current deal at Villa Park, but Martin O'Neill is keen to tie the playmaker down long-term. Petrov insists he has no plans to turn his back on Villa, but has made it clear that he will not be rushed into penning a new contract. "I've always been optimistic," he told the Express and Star. "Don't forget I've still got another year to go and a lot of things can happen. "I'll be happy to sign it, but you never know, that's football." Villa's sudden loss of form has helped to divert attention away from Petrov's situation, with the former Celtic man putting a recent wobble down to the added pressure placed on the players as they pursue a UEFA Champions League place. "I do enjoy my football and it's not just me, but everybody here," he said. "In the last five or six games people have put so much pressure on the boys saying we need to win this and that. "Maybe, because of that, we've forgot to enjoy our game, but I think we should get back to that and doing what we used to do."
