Petrov - Give Barry time

Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov believes the club should allow Gareth Barry time to decide upon his future. The England international was close to joining Liverpool last summer but boss Rafa Benitez refused to meet a reported £18million asking price. Barry - who is keen on playing in the UEFA Champions League - is again thought to be on the Reds' radar as they seek a squad capable of winning the Premier League. Petrov, though, is desperate for his midfield colleague to stay and does not want the 28-year-old to be rushed into any rash decision by the Villa Park hierarchy. "I have said before how important Gareth is to this club," Petrov told the Birmingham Mail. "We should give him time to enjoy things because he had a hard time last summer. "What he did to come back and make the fans happy again was great. "There should be no pressure put on him and he will make the decision in his own time."
