Petrov awaits Barry fate before committing to new Aston Villa deal

Stiliyan Petrov has revealed that Aston Villa's[LNB]ability to retain Gareth Barry will have a major bearing on whether he also stays with the club. [LNB]Villa boss Martin O'Neill wants to open negotiations with the Bulgarian international over a new deal, but the midfielder has confirmed that no talks have yet taken place. [LNB]However, Petrov insists that his own future is heavily linked to that of his midfield colleague who also has just one full season to run on his existing deal. [LNB][LNB] Key to the deal: Stiliyan Petrov insists the future of England international Gareth Barry this summer will play a huge part in his own choice whether to stay at Villa[LNB]As Barry prepared to return for Wednesday's round of 32 first-leg tie against CSKA Moscow following his one-match suspension, Petrov said: 'You need to keep the best players. The manager will want to show that he wants to build something here, and keeping Gareth is important because he's the best player. [LNB]'He's been outstanding, not just for Villa, but for England. He has been a main man for Fabio Capello. [LNB]'We will try to keep him here. We can challenge the big teams, give him what he wants. We want to make his decision more difficult.[LNB] ASTON VILLA v CSKA Moscow: Banned Sidwell sitting out for Villa [LNB]Micah's the man for Villa as Laursen gives cause for concern [LNB]ASTON VILLA FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE WEB[LNB] [LNB] No talks yet: Petrov has put negotiations on a new deal at Villa Park on hold until the end of the season[LNB] 'As for me, there haven't been any talks. It's not a priority at the moment. We have other priorities, like finishing fourth and doing well in the UEFA Cup.' [LNB]Injuries and suspensions are likely to rob O'Neill of the chance to name his firstchoice side at Villa Park for this evening's game which sees the UEFA Cup revert to its two-legged format. [LNB]CSKA have not played since their season ended in early December, and O'Neill is well aware, following his time in Scotland, of the benefits of a mid-season interval. [LNB]'I thought a break was the best invention ever,' said O'Neill. [LNB]'They have been fresh for some time. [LNB]'We don't have a massive choice of players. I will make a couple of changes to the side. [LNB]We have a large crowd coming to the game and you want to be as strong as possible.'[LNB]PROBABLE LINE-UPS [LNB]ASTON VILLA (4-4-2): Friedel; L Young, Knight, Davies, Shorey; Milner, Petrov, Barry, A Young; Agbonlahor, Carew.[LNB]CSKA MOSCOW (4-5-1): Akinfeev; A Berezutskiy, Ignashevich, V Berezutskiy, Shchennikov; Krasich, Rahimic, Aldonin, Zhirkov, Dzagoev; Love.
