O'Neill's transfer warning

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has warned he will not pay over the odds for any summer transfer targets. O'Neill has been strongly linked with a move for Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour as he plans to strengthen his squad for next season. However, the former Celtic chief insists he will not be held to ransom for any possible new signings. "I don't mind paying over the odds for some people if you think that player will develop and become an asset for the team and be money well spent," O'Neill is quoted as saying in the Daily Star. "I did that with Ashley Young, but if I was told that a player I value at £7million was for sale at £15million, then I would not be able to do that."
