O'Neill plans more signings

Martin O'Neill is set to return to the transfer market this month after seeing his Aston Villa side beaten 2-0 at home to Wigan on the opening day. Villa saw Gareth Barry move to Manchester City this summer while Martin Laursen finally confirmed his retirement due to injury problems, but O'Neill has since spent significant sums to sign Stewart Downing, Fabian Delph and Habib Beye. However, while the former Celtic boss is confident in his new-look side, he still feels he needs to bring in more players to strengthen the squad. "We're going to try and get some extra players in if we can, and in our own way," he said. "It's a lengthy season and I'm going to have to try and look after the players. "Certainly from this performance, we've got a lot to do. We were poor, and the fans would be disappointed with our performance."
