O'Neill - Not good enough

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill admitted his side were 'second best' against Wigan Athletic on Saturday. Villa suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat in their opening game of the new Premier League season. Despite an encouraging start from the home side, goals from Hugo Rodallega and Jason Koumas handed the Latics a comfortable 2-0 win. O'Neill told Sky Sports: "We played poorly. We started off reasonably brightly, first 15 minutes, and after that we were second best. "There is no excuse for it. We were second best and in the scheme of things that is just not good enough. "The pre-season has been pretty excellent, but we looked quite tired by the end today and that's probably because we kept giving the ball away. "Wigan deserved to win the game. But obviously we will improve, we will get fitter and stronger. "It was disappointing today."
