O'Neill 'expects' to bolster squad

Villa finally lost captain Gareth Barry to Manchester City this summer, while defender Zat Knight was allowed to join Bolton and Ashley Young has been repeatedly linked with a big-money move from Villa Park. Stewart Downing is Villa's only summer signing so far while Portsmouth turned down an offer for target Sylvain Distin. But O'Neill believes there is still time for him to lure suitable talent to the club as he aims to build on last season's sixth-placed finish. "We are obviously going to improve the team," he told the club's official website. "If we are going to try to improve this season then we need some players in. I will be expecting that to happen. "I am hopeful we will have players coming into the football club. We are some numbers down but we are looking to put that right. "I'm not in the habit of letting people go if I didn't think we could do something. "I would not be getting overly concerned at the moment. We have a number of things that we are working on and I'm hoping they will bear fruit in the not-too-distant future."
