O'Neill expects Euro spot

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill remains confident his side will book a place in next season's UEFA Champions League despite Wednesday's defeat to Manchester City. O'Neill saw his side stretch their winless run to six games as a first-half Elano penalty and a late Shaun Wright-Phillips goal handed City the Premier League points at Eastlands. Villa remain in the coveted fourth spot in the top flight, which books qualification for the Champions League, but, on the back of their drop in form, they are now only three points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal. With 10 games remaining in the league season, O'Neill is positive but the Villa boss recognises that - with trips to Liverpool and Manchester United looming - it will not be easy to book a place in Europe's most prestigious club competition. Difficult"We have fought our way into this position and we are not going to give it up lightly," he told Sky Sports. "Obviously teams that are involved in this situation year in, year out have the knowhow and the expertise and we have probably a little bit of naivety in our side. "However, we still have plenty to play for. It is a 10 game season now and it is up to us to pick up the requisite number of points. "It will be very hard but, if it is worth going for, I'm sure we'll be up for it. "We have got some exceptionally difficult games coming up. But I'm sure that we will still be in it with five or six games left and, if we are there or there abouts, I'm sure that we can do it."
