O'Neill denies dithering over Davies
The defender, who is currently sidelined after having surgery on a dislocated shoulder, is stuck on 58 games for Villa with a contract re-negotiation due after his 60th.[LNB]O'Neill bolstered his options at centre-half in the summer with James Collins and Richard Dunne arriving, causing Davies and his agent some concern.[LNB]The Ulsterman has since slammed the player's agent, Phil Sproson, for his part in going public over the contract affairs but has now revealed his disappointment in his player.[LNB]"I would have thought the contract issue was private information, but if the agent and the player chose to reveal the details, that is up to them," O'Neill told the Daily Star.[LNB]The 24-year-old former West Brom defender picked up his injury against Rapid Vienna in the Europa League, and with options available to O'Neill, the boss felt surgery was better sooner rather than later.[LNB]The decision to encourage surgery with Davies just two games shy of contract renewal talks drew criticism from the player's agent, but O'Neill insists it had no bearing on his team-sheet in their following game.[LNB]"I do not deny that there is a re-negotiation after he plays 60 games," he reiterated.[LNB]"I did not know that until the agent reminded me. That was not the reason I did not play him against Fulham."[LNB][LNB]
