O'Neill defends under-fire Gabby

Agbonlahor has netted 11 goals this season but only two since mid-December, and he was booed by supporters when replaced by Nathan Delfouneso in the latter stages. O'Neill had appealed before the game for the fans to get behind the team in the final quarter of the season and he was clearly upset by their reaction after the 2-1 loss. He said: "Gabby has been fantastic for this football club and I am very disappointed with what happened when he was substituted. Ever since I have known him, two and a half years ago, he has been brilliant. "He is going through a period where his confidence is low but I have got to tell you that is no way to treat him after what he has done here. "I can put up with many other things but that was uncalled for and people have short memories. "I've always said if you pay your money you can do what you want but that sort of thing doesn't help anybody." Villa have now gone seven games without a win in all competitions and have surrendered a top-four place in the Barclay's Premier League for the first time since early December. But O'Neill is confident Villa can respond although their next two games are away to Liverpool and Manchester United. He said: "This was a disappointing result because it was a game we felt we could win but I still feel it is possible to reach our objectives. "In November we lost two games in six days and then went on a 13-match unbeaten run. "We probably have to get something from the next two games which will be pretty difficult but I believe it is possible that we can still fight back and the players feel that. "There are still nine games to go, plenty of points to play for." Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp hailed the performance of centre back pairing Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King after the visitors gained their fourth away victory of the season. He said: "Ledley has come back into the side and, with Jonathan, forms one of the best pairings in the country. "You can talk about Ferdinand and Vidic but these two are also up there. They are fantastic central defenders. "They have got bags of pace, bags of ability and play a key part for us." Redknapp is delighted with the form his side have shown since he replaced Juande Ramos as manager. He said: "We have been in great form recently. We have taken 33 points from 21 games since I have been here. "That is top seven form and I have been delighted with the players. But we have still got a bit of work to do even though we now have 35 points altogether.
