Meet the six-year-old boy who applied to be Aston Villa manager

Charlie Pye is very much the manager Aston Villa could have had.

The six-year-old Villa fan sent in his application when Paul Lambert left the club – ultimately losing out to Tim Sherwood.

The guy who pipped him to the post sent him a letter, though, and now the lad has even had the opportunity to sit in Sherwood’s seat in the dugout. “I don’t normally get to sit in here,” said Charlie, accurately.

Asked what would make him a good manager, Charlie said: “I’ve got good tactics.”

Asked how he’d get star striker Christian Benteke fired up, Charlie replied: “By getting him to warm up and sprint down the field and hit the ball.”

And his demands if the team win? “Sweets.”

Villa could have saved themselves a few quid there.

Ultimately we reckon Charlie’s probably pretty chuffed with the job Sherwood’s doing, though.
