Share[LNB]Aston Villa's season has been a mess and the club has wasteda year, according to full-back Luke Young.[LNB]The former England international delivered an honest yetdamning appraisal of the past eight months at Villa Park after they splutteredover the line to safety.[LNB]Villa were there for the taking throughout anothernon-performance that will have done little to persuade another 36,000 souls todip their hands into their pockets next season.[LNB] Speaking out: Luke Young (right) in action against Wigan on Saturday[LNB]While wishing Gerard Houllier a full and speedy recovery,Young said the whole situation, beginning with Martin O'Neill's walk-out lastAugust, has contributed to a campaign of under-performance.[LNB]'It is a bit of a mess,' said Young, 'we needto know what we are doing, who is going to take the club forward and who isgoing to be making the decisions on which players stay and go.[LNB]'We need to know who is going to be in charge. Let's behonest, no-one knows what is happening.[LNB]'We've discussed it ourselves as players who is goingto be making the decisions to buy and sell. No-one knows again.[LNB]'We kind of feel we have had a season where we aremeant to be moving on and basically we have wasted a year. We're no furtherdown the line than we were before.[LNB]'As players, we can't make excuses. It's not ideal. Weknow, as a group, that where we are in the league isn't good enough.[LNB] Fuming: Emile Heskey argues with referee Mike Jones[LNB]'We shouldn't be struggling with this squad and we needto fly out of the blocks better than we did last year.[LNB]'I'd hope that a decision is made quickly. As a player,it helps.[LNB]'It's very unsettling with Gerard's situation. We knewthat with a few games to go that the current situation was only going to beshort-term.[LNB]'But we could do with knowing quickly what's going tobe happening next year.' [LNB]Emile Heskey stomped off at half-time after his dispute withreferee Mike Jones spilled over at half-time.[LNB]According to eye-witnesses, the big striker had to be heldback by five of Villa's staff and his team-mates as he attempted to make a pointmore forcibly that he had been the victim of an elbow by Antolin Alcaraz.[LNB]Gary McAllister wisely substituted the forward at theinterval. He said afterwards: 'You could tell by the way he reacted thathe wasn't happy. He went home at half-time but maybe it was the bestthing.'
