06 August 2010 12:16
Roy Hodgson will hope to emulate his Europa League heroics with new club Liverpool after successfully steering them into the play-off draw following last night's win over Macedonian minnows FK Rabatnicki.[LNB]The Anfield boss guided last season's surprise package Fulham all the way to the Final before extra time heartbreak to winners Atletico Madrid.[LNB]The Reds are joined in the draw with big-spending Manchester City with Roberto Mancini eyeing European glory this season.[LNB]Aston Villa, Celtic, Motherwell, Dundee United and Welsh outfit TNS must also overcome tricky play-off ties - but sides from the same country cannot face eachother.[LNB]Sportsmail will bring you the draw as it happens live in Nyon.[LNB] 1.13: No real eye openers elsewhere then, I must admit UEFA could have made half these teams up and I would not have been none the wiser, Strum Graz v Juvenus is probably one of the only other highlights.[LNB]That's all folks, have a good afternoon.[LNB]1.10: A round up of the other British sides then. Manchester City will have to get their Romanian A-Z's out while TNS have a tough draw and will do well to dump out CSKA Sofia.[LNB]Dutch side Utrecht should prove no pushovers for Celtic and the same goes for Motherwell and their Danish opponents Odense.[LNB]Dundee United against Athens on paper is not far from being an even contest and should prove to be quite a tie.[LNB]1.06: Dates then. The first legs will be on the 19th August with the returns a week later on the 26th.[LNB]1.03: Some interesting ties there, Liverpool face a tricky tie with Trabzonspor, while the draw could have been a little kinder to Aston Villa but they will be out for revenge against Raipid Vienna after the Austrian side knocked them out the same competition at the same stage last season.[LNB]12.54: UEFA Europa League Draw:[LNB]Lausanne v Lokomotiv MoscowGyori v Dinamo ZagrebOdense v MotherwellPAOK v FenerbahceVillarreal v Dnepr MoglievTimisoara v Manchester City[LNB]Rapid Vienna v Aston VillaCSKA Sofia v The New SaintsBesiktas v HJK HelsinkiSlovan Bratislava v Vfb StuttgartSibir Novosibirsk v PSV EindhovenBATE v Maritmo[LNB]Strum Graz v JuventusGetafe v APOELDundee United v AEK AthensAZ Alkmaar v AktobeDnipro v Lech[LNB]Grasshopper v Steaua BucharestLiverpool v TrabzonsporCeltic v FC UtrechtBorussia Dortmund v QarabagAIK v LevskiClub Brugge v Dinamo MinskAC Omonia v Metalist KharkivVaslui v LilleNapoli v IFS ElfsborgSporting Club Portugal v Brondby[LNB]Genk v PortoDebrecen v LitexAris v Austria ViennaGalatasary v FC KarpatyPalermo v NK Maribor[LNB]Paris St Germain v M Tel-AvivBayer Leverkusen v Sc TavriyaCSKA Moscow v AnorthosisHajduk Split v FC UnireaFeyenoord v Gent[LNB]12.36: UEFA Competitions Director Giorgio Marchetti is now on stage and the draw is coming up very shortly after he briefly explains how the draw will be made.[LNB]12.33: After talking about the 'success' of the Europa League Infantino has now gone on a completley different topic and started giving us the details of UEFA's financial policies, surely we are only here for the draw?[LNB]12.30: Bang on time then as UEFA's Gianni Infantino makes his way out and gives us the usual few words about what we are here for etc...as if we didn't already know.[LNB]12.24: Dundee United especially will be watching this draw with interest, they could heavily fancy their chances of progressing with a tie against Dnipro but in equal measure find themselves up against Italian giants Juventus.[LNB]12.19: A couple of British ties on the cards then. Liverpool v Celtic is not one of them before you get your hopes up but Aston Villa v TNS and Manchester City v Motherwell are very much possibilities.[LNB]12.16: As you can see, we have focused on the Brits in the featured groups below, so there is such things as Groups 1, 2 and 3 and I will post their draws as well so don't panic when I start posting up teams that might look a little random.[LNB]Here are the full details on how the draw will work:[LNB]The 74 clubs are divided into seven groups for the draw - five often teams and two of 12. Within the seven groups an equal number ofsides will be seeded and unseeded in accordance with the club rankingsestablished at the beginning of the season. Teams from the sameassociation cannot be drawn against each other.[LNB]For each group, balls containing the seeded sides will be placed in one bowl and ballscontaining unseeded teams in another. A ball will be taken from eachbowl and placed in a large empty bowl in the middle, where they will beshuffled. The first club drawn will play its first match at homeagainst the second side drawn.[LNB]12.10: Welcome to live coverage then for the Europa League draw, will the British sides be as fortunate as Spurs were in their Champions League draw?[LNB]The draw is set to get under at 12.30pm.[LNB]Group 4SeededLIVERPOOLSteaua BucharestCELTICLevski SofiaBorussia Dortmund[LNB]UnseededGrasshoppersTrabzonsporUtrechtAIKFK Qarabag[LNB]Group 5SeededJuventusAZ AlkmaarGetafeAEK AthensDnipro Dnipropetrovsk[LNB]UnseededAPOELLech PoznanSturm GrazDUNDEE UNITEDFK Aktobe[LNB] Group 6SeededPSV EindhovenStuttgartBesiktasASTON VILLACSKA SofiaBATE Borisov[LNB]UnseededRapid ViennaSibir NovosibirskMaritimoSlovan BratislavaHJK HelsinkiTHE NEW SAINTS[LNB]Group 7SeededVillarrealFenerbacheMANCHESTER CITYLokomotiv MoscowOdenseDinamo Zagreb[LNB]UnseededFC TimisoaraPAOK FCMOTHERWELLLausanneDnepr MogilevGyori ETO FC[LNB] Sharp shooter: Manchester City will be hoping Carlos Tevez fires them through to the Europa League proper[LNB] [LNB]
