John Terry in England squad but Rio Ferdinand left out
John Terry has been named in the England squad to face Spain on Saturday and Sweden next Tuesday. [LNB]Terry is unlikely to lead England out against world champions Spain at Wembley even though Capello has included him in his squad. [LNB]The Chelsea captain has Capello's support while he contests allegations that he racially abused the QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.[LNB] But while Terry has been named in the squad to face Spain and Sweden, Capello says he wants to rest his captain and experiment with different players. [LNB]England's manager insists that his decisions have not been influenced by Terry's fight to clear his name in investigations by the Football Association and the Metropolitan Police. [LNB]A dramatic few days in the race row has seen Ferdinand deliver a statement to the FA on Thursday. The statement is understood to contain 17 points and to contradict Terry's account of what happened in the QPR game two weeks ago. Capello told Terry he is unlikely to play against Spain because the England manager wants to try younger, less experienced players. But it is planned that Terry will play one half against Sweden. [LNB]Capello said on Saturday: 'We had a meeting with the FA on Friday. We spoke about John Terry. I think he is innocent until proven guilty. For this reason, I selected him. [LNB]'On Friday I told him I don't know if he will play [against Spain] because I want to see new players and he was happy. If he does not play, it is only for football reasons. I want to see [Joleon] Lescott, [Gary] Cahill and [Phil] Jagielka play at the top levels.'
