John Gregory signs deal with FC Kairat

Share All smiles: John Gregory has enjoyed a colourful career since leaving England[LNB]John Gregory will continue his colourful coaching career in the unlikely surroundings of Kazakhstan.[LNB]The former Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers manager has signed a two-year contract with FC Kairat, who play in the country's biggest city Almaty.[LNB]Gregory, 57, had spent the last two years working in Israel before leaving FC Ashdod in April.[LNB]He is believed to be the first Briton to manage a football club in Kazakhstan and met his new players for the first time on Monday.[LNB]Kairat are 10th of 12 teams in the country's Premier League and Gregory told his new side: 'I can't change the past, but I can affect future results.[LNB]'First of all I want the players to forget about all the failures of the past and think only about the future. [LNB]'Sometimes it is not even particularly important how a team plays - most important is that they win. I love to win and I like players with winning characters.'[LNB] High times: The former Aston Villa boss also managed at QPR and Derby County[LNB]Gregory, who has also managed Portsmouth, Plymouth Argyle, Wycombe Wanderers and Derby County, was officially due to be unveiled in his new role on Tuesday.[LNB]Kairat were once the regional powerhouse during Soviet times but have won the Kazakh league just twice since independence - most recently in 2004.[LNB]The club hit the headlines last month when their player Armand Masimzhanov was banned for life for launching an astonishing kung-fu kick at an unwitting opponent.
