Joey Barton will leave Newcastle on a free as Sol Campbell leaves Toon

ShareNewcastle have risked the wrath of fans by not offering Joey Barton a new deal at St James' Park - allowing the influential midfielder to leave at the end of next season on a free transfer.[LNB]Barton, 28, has been one of the stand-out performers at St James' Park, but is entering the last 12 months of his contract. [LNB]And after talks between club officials and the player's representatives broke down, Barton will run down his current deal, putting the likes of Aston Villa and Liverpool on red alert. [LNB]'I had a meeting with Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias and club secretary Lee Charnley and they have indicated Joey will not be offered a new contract,' McKay said.[LNB]Farewell: Barton will leave on a free[LNB]'Joey will continue to be a Newcastle player next season and then he will leave on a free transfer at the end of his contract.[LNB]'Joey would have loved to have extended his stay at Newcastle, but unfortunately it is not to be.[LNB]'Joey has loved his time at Newcastle and nothing will change his commitment for the club next season.[LNB]'Obviously we will be monitoring the situation next January to try and find a new club for Joey as he can speak to clubs from abroad in January.'[LNB]Meanwhile, former England defender Sol Campbell and one-time Finlandstriker Shefki Kuqi have not been offered new deals after their respective short spells at St James' Park.[LNB]36-year-old was Campbell was signed last summer by then manager Chris Hughton, but he has made just a handful of appearances.[LNB]Newcastle boss Alan Pardew said: 'Sol's gone and good luck to him.
