Jenas shrugs off Spurs exit talk

Various reports have linked Jenas with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer but the former Newcastle and Nottingham Forest midfielder insists he is happy at the club. "It is all rumour to be honest," he said. "I am happy at Tottenham and it happens in football. "There comes a time when the transfer window opens and people start talking. It happens." Jenas has targeted a European spot as a minimum requirement for this season after Tottenham just missed out last term. Spurs will not compete in the Europa Cup this year after being edged for the final qualifying place by Fulham, meaning their sole focus will be on their domestic campaign. Harry Redknapp signed England striker Peter Crouch at the start of the week and has expressed a desire to bolster his squad further before the start of the season. And Jenas believes the current squad has the ability to improve upon last season's eighth-place finish. "I think finishing Europe would be a definite goal for us," the 26-year-old added. "We have definitely got the squad that is capable of doing that. "We are going to have to be competing with likes of Man City, Arsenal, Villa while Fulham were in there last year so we are going to have a lot of competition. "Crouchy has come in and Kyle (Naughton) has come in, he is very confident for a young lad, while we know enough about Crouchy and what he is going to give us. "These are exciting times." Spurs on Friday secured a 3-0 victory over Premier League rivals Hull to win the Barclays Asia Trophy and on Saturday set off to Hong Kong where they will play a friendly against South China on Sunday. That game will complete a busy couple of weeks for Spurs this summer but Jenas believes the volume of games will prove beneficial. "It has been very hectic but we need the games and we need to get the minutes under our belt because come the start of the season we will be calling upon it," he added. "We need the fitness and coming out here and playing in these conditions will help us."
