Hughes turns his attention to Carew

Hughes has made a new forward one his top priorites this summer and Carew is now thought to be his main target. City have struggled for goals this season, especially away from home, and Hughes sees powerful frontman Carew as the man who could solve their attacking problems. Hughes is thought to be a big admirer of the Norwegian international and sees him as the perfect foil to the likes of Robinho and Craig Bellamy. Carew has scored 11 league goals 15 in all competitions, including eight in his last 16 appearances, in a season in which he has not always been first-choice in Martin O'Neill's starting XI. The former Lyon and Valencia star's future has been the subject of speculation ever since the January arrival of Emile Heskey and Villa could be tempted to sell Carew for the right offer. If Villa decide to offload Carew their asking price would prove no problem for cash-rich City, who are likely to make a number of changes to their squad as they look to break into the top six next season.
