HATCHET MAN: Young's Villa days are numbered now poor man Downing has winged in

Ashley Young is surely on his way out of Aston Villa as soon as the January transfer window opens. The club have cashed in on Gareth Barry and the poor man's Young, Stewart Downing, has hobbled in to try to seal a deal. A midfield worker departs and a wideman arrives who took 82 shots in the Premier League last season but failed to score once. That Downing won't be able to play for a few months doesn't seem tohave scared off manager Martin O'Neill. Neither has the fact that hiswingers Young and James Milner lived up to his expectations last season. Villa insist that the arrival of one left-sided player doesn't mean another coveted leftie will be leaving, but it is hard to see how they will both fit into the team. Maybe Young could be used as competition for Gabriel Agbonlahor up front, but he just doesn't have the power to go with the pace. His skill is best out wide and it looks like it will be utilised by genuine Champions League candidates in the not too distant future while Downing flatters to deceive for another season.
