HATCHET MAN: Villa will fall like the interest rate if O'Neill & Co don't replace Laursen and B

Martin O'Neill and Randy Lerner need to deliver in the transfer market this summer or Aston Villa will go into serious decline. The manager says he will be spending carefully but losing Martin Laursen to injury will be a massive loss. The defender's absence from the team towards the end of the seasonhas been a major reason for their poor run of results and replacing himadequately will cost a lot of money. Thanks for the memories: Gareth Barry (left) will leave Aston Villa this summer - but who will replace him? With Gareth Barry also set to leave Villa Park the team's defensiveset -up will be significantly weaker and there is no way they can mountanother challenge on the top four without some impressive squad strengthening. O'Neill spent more than £31 million last summer and Villa stillcould not sustain their challenge so the club either need to lowertheir expectations by some way or owner Lerner needs to dig very deepand the manager find the Midas touch.
