HATCHET MAN: Petrov needs to be his own man and forget about Villa pal Barry

18 February 2009 12:03
Stiliyan Petrov has suggested that his decision over a new contract at Aston Villa[LNB]may depend on what happens to Gareth Barry. [LNB]Both players have 18 months left to run on their deals but England midfielder Barry spent last summer trying to leave the club. [LNB] [LNB]Make up your mind: Petrov should be able to decide things himself[LNB]Why this should worry Petrov so much is a mystery. Barry is a decent player but he is not irreplaceable and Villa are not a one-man team. [LNB]If Petrov had said his new contract talks would depend on the future of Martin O'Neill, that would have made more sense. [LNB]The manager has helped the midfielder succeed first at Celtic and now Villa and showed great faith and patience in him. [LNB]Petrov, 29, should be able to make up his own mind, regardless of what happens to Barry, and trust that the manager who helped make his reputation in Britain will continue to reach for the stars.[LNB] Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov awaits Gareth Barry fate before committing to a new deal[LNB]Petrov admits Barry deal will influence his decision to stay with Aston Villa[LNB]ASTON VILLA v CSKA Moscow: Banned Sidwell sitting out for Villa[LNB]ASTON VILLA FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE NET[LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB] [LNB] [LNB]
