Habib Beye accepts responsibility for Aston Villa's Europa League exit
So it was on Thursday night, when the defender had to admit responsibility for two of Rapid Vienna's three goals which resulted in Villa's departure from the Europa League. [LNB]Impartial observers would suggest that caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald ought to shoulder at least a portion of the blame (he selected Beye at left back instead of Stephen Warnock, after all), but the Senegal international stepped up this morning and admitted on the club's website that he had been at fault, firstly for trying to be clever outside his own area and allowing Vienna to score their first, and then being out of position when Vienna scored their third. [LNB]Both Stiliyan Petrov, the club captain, and MacDonald said after the match that the players needed to face up to their mistakes and accept responsibility for the result, but intriguingly MacDonald was not willing to do likewise with his decision to picking Beye out of position at left-back. [LNB]'I picked senior players for tonight,' he said. 'You asked me yesterday if I would play experienced players or youngsters. I decided to pick seniors, and Habib has played many positions as a top international, so I felt that he was probably best to play in that position.' A mistake, as it turned out. [LNB]
