Glen Johnson is tipping Liverpool team-mate Andy Carroll to explode onto the international scene.[LNB]Carroll linked up with Johnson at England's training base in Watford ahead of Saturday's Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales at the Millennium Stadium.[LNB]Leading light: Carroll has been backed to shine for England[LNB]Although the 22-year-old striker only made his international debut against France in November, coach Fabio Capello has already earmarked Carroll as one of the key members of his squad.[LNB]And, after a couple of months in the same Anfield dressing room as the ?35million new arrival, Johnson, who was visiting the Ellesmere Port car plant of new England sponsors Vauxhall, can see exactly why.[LNB]'He scares the life out of opposition defences,' said the full-back.[LNB]'Everyone sees Andy as a big target man, who can hold the ball up. But there is far more to his game than that.[LNB]'He is always an outlet. You can stretch the play by giving it to him and he scores goals.[LNB]'Defenders just do not like the way he plays.[LNB]'He has caught me by surprise with his development but in football your life can change very quickly.[LNB]'There is no doubt he can make a big impact.'[LNB]For a man of such size, Carroll has disappeared under the radar given the attention understandably being devoted to John Terry's reinstatement as skipper.[LNB]Although it appears Rio Ferdinand has no intention of abandoning the England cause when he recovers from his calf injury, the Manchester United defender is clearly unhappy with Fabio Capello's handling of the situation.[LNB]It has been suggested others feel the same way, which might lead to a frosty atmosphere at training this morning.[LNB]However, according to Johnson, the situation has been overblown and in Terry, England have the ideal man to guide them towards the European Championships in Poland and the Ukraine next summer.[LNB] Motoring on: Glen Johnson with former Everton and Wales player Kevin Ratcliffe during a visit to the Vauxhall factory[LNB]'John Terry leads by example,' said Johnson.[LNB]'He loves the shirt and wears his heart on his sleeve.[LNB]'He is a vocal presence who tries to help the new lads in the squad. He can see the whole game and organises everything.[LNB]'He is a leader and he deserves the armband.'[LNB]Johnson certainly does not feel there is likely to be any disharmony in the camp and believes Ferdinand is mature enough to cope with the disappointment.[LNB]'It will not be a problem,' he said.[LNB]'Obviously Rio will be upset to lose the armband. But he is a big man and he will pick himself up and get on with it.[LNB]'We are going to miss him this week. When you lose anyone like that, you are going to notice it.[LNB]'But everyone in the squad is a professional. We will get on with our job.'[LNB] Dynamic duo!
